U.S. Poets in Mexico Sheila Lanham, DIrector P.O. Box 4150 Grand Central Station New York, NY 10163 Questions? Please email: USPIM@Earthlink.net About Our Director and Founder
Sheila Lanham, a poet and artist, founded U.S. Poets in Mexico in 2008. Her first visit to Mexico was in 1978 with artist Larry Rivers. She attended the School of Visual Arts (fine arts) and the New School for Social Research (studying poetry with Gilbert Sorrentino) in New York City and the Maryland Institute College of Art (painting major) in Baltimore, MD. In the early 1980's she was co-editor with poet David Beaudouin for several years of The Pearl: A Baltimore Literary Journal. She is the author of Baltimore: Blues and Greens, a chapbook, was included in A Gathering of Voices: An Anthology of Baltimore Poets (Dolphin Moon Press), and has been included in various ezines and small group chapbooks. She previously worked as an archivist for many contemporary artists, including working towards the publication of the Catalogue Raisonnés of French artist Arman, and Dutch artist Karel Appel. She also organized the archives of poet Kenneth Koch, which now reside at the New York Public Library. U.S. Poets in Mexico is a program born out of a love of poets and poetry, and a love of Mexico. Sheila currently lives and works in New York City and continues to visit Mexico frequently.
